LIKES: First off let me say what I like about the "1080 Extreme Spy Pen HD500." The 1080 HD video quality is EXCELLENT. Particularly when you consider there is only 1 focal setting. This aspect of the pen was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I've only had time to take it on 3 test runs. So far, the sound recording has also been very good. It would be a great 2 hour "nanny cam" or similar such purpose.
DISLIKES: (1) The camera lens is set at a permanent 65% angle. I've placed the Spy Pen in the center of my chest (right about where my heart is) and also in my shirt pocket. When I looked at the resulting video's all I saw was the tops of people's heads or over their head (with no faces at all). Forget about seeing people who are sitting down if you are standing up. I purchased this camera to use as a personal body cam during life's various emergencies. So, not having faces to go with the voices is unacceptable and in fact, I will likely send it back and ask for a refund unless the manufacturer can do something about this. (2) It is a remarkably small pen when you consider its audio and video capabilities. However, it is really TOO BIG to look like a pen when it is in my shirt pocket. So, for a "spy cam" I'm not sure it is all that stealthy. [[ Taking the "spy" aspect out of the equation the size is great for a body cam. ]] (3) There is no indicator light (or other mechanism) on the pen to let you know it is actively recording. Yes, I agree, a light shining from a pen might cause people to ask questions. However, there is a good possibility the event you wanted to capture got missed because the Spy Pen wasn't in record mode when you THOUGHT it was. There must be some way to resolve this. (4) The blue L.E.D. is difficult to see because it is not right in front of the viewing hole. [[I suppose this is because that hole is the same hole you put a pin through to "reset" the spy pen should it ever lock up.]] I find myself having to hold the pen at odd angles to see the blue and green lights. Obviously, if I have to take it out of my pocket and hold up high to see if it went into record mode people would know somethings up. [[Maybe put the viewing hole above the L.E.D. instead of below it so the user is looking down into it.]]
SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR THE MANUFACTURER: (1) If it is possible to manufacture the spy pen with the ability for the user to set the angle of the lens the user could perhaps overcome the problem with recording over peoples heads. Either redesign it to allow the user to try various angles as a part of the setup process or add a button that allows the lens to be angled up, straight ahead and down (or something). (2) Ship the "Spy Pen" with a video on how to setup and operate the spy pen. It took me awhile to understand and get comfortable with the sequence of flashing lights. Also, show some real-world examples of how to use it.
SUGGESTED DESIGN CHANGE: The "Spy Pen" is designed to look like a high-end pen like a bank executive might own. It stands out like the proverbial sore-thumb on me. If you change the design to one of those 3-color pens that have separate push switches for each color the spy pen could be a wide as it is because that type of pen is wider. Also, you could add additional electronic functionality such as the red pen switch puts it in record and the black pen switch changes the lens angle etcetera....

First the good: Great picture for such a small device. The sound quality is that of which you would get with a small hand held pocket recorder. It also looks nice and feels well made.
Ok here is the bad: Similar to what others have experienced...the camera is pointed too high. If you have the pen clipped to your shirt pocket, you will be looking at the ceiling most of the time. Secondly, the pen gets Very hot in your shirt pocket. It almost gets too hot to touch. It does say this is normal in the instructions, but it becomes uncomfortably hot after about 30-45 minutes of operation. From my experience heat + electronics is not a good combination. I will keep the pen because it is a cool little gadget despite the flaws. PS: 8GB will last the whole battery life with quality set on the highest setting. So you don't need a larger capacity unless you need to put files on it other than 60-70 minutes of video from the pen.

The pen works well. It is easy to operate, while at the same time giving enough options for better performance in different surroundings.
Quality of materials and manufacture seems good, although I've used the pen for only two days.
What could be improved? Storage capacity.
More memory, more battery, that's what we all want. While I think battery is all right according to current technology (that is, it would increase the price excessively to make it last longer), I believe price would increase little if storage capacity were 64 GB, while the pen would be much more useful.
Another drawback is that the camera is directed too high. Maybe the angle of the average human chest was not considered when designing the pen?
Anyway, I definitely recommend the product.

I still can’t believe the video I get from this came from a spy pen. I have used many different recording gadgets (keychains, flash drive, pens etc) and this is the best video quality I have seen. The pen is definitely expensive when you consider some pens sell for $15-$20. After using the pen for a while, I am happy with it despite the high price tag. I like how you can customize your recording settings, so far, I haven’t seen another pen that can do this. The main drawback is that the indicator light can be hard to see, you have to look at it from an angle to see it well. Over all, I am happy with it.
